Into the ER

June 16, 2008

So, you know how I was talking about jinxing myself on Friday?
Yeah.
Bad.
I actually ended up in the emergency room Friday night.  As E. put it, around 10:30 I started “throwing up a storm.”  I very quickly got to the point where I could barely stand and we all agreed that he should call an ambulence versus attempt to drive my sick ass to the hospital.  I was treated to an i.v. of fluids and an i.v. of anti-nausea drugs and about 2:30 in the morning I was released.  Except my poor, sweet ride home was sound asleep in the waiting room and I conked out next to him.  We woke up and drove home around 6:30.  If I could, I would buy a giant plasma tv for both him and his folks for taking care of me under the circumstances. :(
There never was a conclusive diagnosis.  No one else had been sick so neither food poisoning nor stomach bug really made sense.  And I’d been taking the same pain medicine all week so I can’t blame that either.  I think it was simply a matter of my body being really tired of being sick and…well, just trying to get everything out of my system.
Yesterday I took some prescription anti-nausea medication and have since had a pretty hearty appettite, knock on wood.
Beyond that, I really did have a lovely weekend with E.’s family.  Last night we watched Into the Wild, which E.’s mom had rented.  It’s a really beautiful movie to watch–well directed and full of lush scenery.  However, I feel a little evil because even knowing full well it was based on a true story, I was incredibly annoyed with the character toward the end and very anxious for the movie to hurry up and be over so I didn’t have to keep watching him.  I don’t want to give anything away, but instead of sympathetic, I found the “character” of Chris to be annoyingly stupid and stubborn.  See?  Evil.  I feel really bad saying that because he was a real kid.  I just thought that even at age 23 I would have had the sense to learn about edible nuts and berries before going on an Alaskan wilderness adventure, not 3/4 of the way through.
Oh well.
Hope everyone had a nice Father’s Day!  I didn’t visit with my Dad, though I would have been happy to were distance (and moreover, health!) not an issue.  At least I got to visit with my sweetie’s Dad–that counts for something, right?
