Das Desk
July 20, 2007Last night two German men sold me a desk.
No no, this is completely true! Not the set up to a joke or an intro to a story of my kidnapping.
There’s a furniture store in Lincoln Square called Northern Home Furnishings. I’ve never gone in because it looked very imported and thus very pricey. But yesterday there was a sign out front that they were having a desk sale, so I was intrigued. Remember, pre-vacation I could find NOTHING I wanted. Nothing on line, nothing in stores. Stomp stomp, whine whine.
Well, a very nice German man (and I mean German–”Yah, dey do a good job of manufacturing dese desks!”) helped me find two that I immediately loved. And the price? Really reasonable, especially considering 1) The desk was not made from flimsy particle board and 2) The price includes delivery AND assembly. What? The same guys that deliver it put it together? You don’t have to schedule a separate appointment with a whole different company based on your best guess of when the item will arrive? Woo hoo!
I went home to take some measurements, called the Germans back, and the lovely Helmut took my order and finalized my delivery for Tuesday. Which is perfect because Office Depot is coming Monday to cart away the hunk of junk they sold me.
Suffice to say I am a very happy girl and extremely excited that I can finally put my office area together and find some semblence of order around here. It makes it much easier to take that my cell phone joined my former laptop in the great electronics aisle in the sky last night and I’m off to the U.S. Cellular store at lunchtime…
In other news, please be sure to stop by Stephanie’s place today and wish her a very happy birthday!
